HARI HARI

Hari Hari is a refreshing, colourful and sustainable alternative to current single-use pads on the market. I noticed that many mainstream single-use period products are outdated and excessively feminised in its design, and produces a frustrating amount of waste. With Hari Hari, I wanted to reimagine this single-use staple in a way that minimises waste as much as possible, coupled with a design that is more inclusive and aware of its users.

When considering the materials of this product, I initially explored options like hemp, soft bioplastics, and seaweeds. Further research revealed that they would be costlier to source, which ultimately drives up the cost and makes this product inaccessible to many. Therefore, I chose cardboard as it served the same purpose but was more accessible and readily available. Additionally, I considered the use of inks that would ensure 100% recyclability. Vegetable-based inks provided vibrant colors similar to traditional printer ink while being more environmentally friendly. Later on, I recognised the need for moisture protection, and I decided that a water-based coating would be the optimal choice to safeguard my product.
